Castle Business Park, StirlingClient: Stirling Council Budget: £2m
Providing 350,000 sq ft of modern office space, the development plan for Castle Business Park included eight
independent office buildings, a restaurant, hotel and reception facilities .The concept for the reception centre,
located in a prominent position at the entrance to the park, was developed
from the ancient crannog, or Scottish loch dwelling. Timber elevations and intricate roof pyramids echo this ancient
architectural form, whilst internally the open timber structure provided unique conference and visitor accommodation
overlooking the lochan.
The reception centre takes the form of a series of linked, octagonal spaces, giving the appearance of a small group of buildings. Set on a projecting concrete base with a timber deck perimeter cantilevered over the lochan, the structure was formed using rustic hewn timber logs infilled with glazed, or timber-lined, panels. Low pitched octagonal roofs, with large overhanging Russian eaves, were formed in lead and vertical chains guide rainwater into the lochan. Since construction, the building has been adapted to form a successful restaurant. |
