Manchester Cathedral Visitor Centre
Manchester

Client: Manchester City Council Special Projects

Project value: £2m

Situated within the City Centre Millennium Quarter and the Cathedral Conservation Area, the project was financed by Manchester City Council Millennium Fund. Its formation entailed the redevelopment of two elaborate Victorian brick buildings constructed above the 'Hanging Bridge', Manchester's only scheduled ancient monument, dating back to the 13th-century. Existing interiors were removed and reformed to form an interactive exhibition, cafeteria, retail, educational and society spaces within a new structure. The visitor centre's innovative modern design actively encourages public involvement in the heart of the city.
