Joining the Practice in 1979, Alan was heavily involved in the Commercial Re-generation of Edinburgh’s central core adapting outdated office space to present day needs within the Central Conservation Area of Edinburgh. This work combined with an acute awareness of our architectural heritage developed an expertise in Conservation resulting in work to many of our most cherished buildings including Edinburgh Castle, the Scott Monument, Scottish National Portrait Gallery and the Usher Hall. Alan pioneered the office’s work in Russia leading to projects for the Office of the Mayor of St Petersburg and the Foreign & Commonwealth Office. Alan has developed the Practice’s work in the Education Sector leading to an interest and expertise in Sustainable Technologies including Building Integrated Photovoltaics, Passive Ventilation and the Sustainable use of timber. Alan currently manages the Edinburgh office involved in a wide range of sectors including Conservation, Commercial, Residential, Leisure and Higher Education.
