LondonClient: Her Majesty's Courts Service Value: confidential The new Magistrates’ courts for central London, replaces the famous courts at Bow Street and Horseferry Road, redeveloping the existing Marylebone Road Courts site which is London’s oldest functioning Law court. The project provides 10 new Magistrates Courtrooms together with supporting accommodation. A four storey high screen is formed by a lattice work of solid stone sections, and wraps around the front of the building; defining the existing street line culminating in a new public forecourt to the main entrance. A full-length atrium brings natural daylight into the centre of the building including the courtrooms and provides orientation for the linear court layout. The building cycles water from the London aquifer for cooling/heating and exceeds the GLA target of providing 10% of its energy from renewable sources. The primary cooling/heating is delivered via a network of water pipes embedded in the exposed concrete slabs. |
