Key destinations including an ice rink, boutique hotel, bars and restaurants, department stores and a new high street have been used to generate new pedestrian routes through the site. Combining commercial uses and contemporary apartments within mixed-use buildings ensures there is a continuous presence on site. The masterplan envisages the use of a shared palette of materials including timber, glass, steel and rain screen cladding to present a cohesive network of buildings. In contrast to masterplans from the 1960’s, the scale and massing of the buildings has been designed as a natural extension of the town centre
