Colonnades and Concert Halls

These schemes, involving the comprehensive redevelopment of two important listed-buildings within Edinburgh city centre, entailed careful restoration of the existing fabric together with the incorporation of significant new architectural elements.

The George Street project featured a magnificent banking hall with an impressive row of Corinthian columns.

In 1978, the Queen’s Hall was opened by Her Majesty The Queen as a new concert venue, which had been created from the Old Chapel-of-Ease of Newington and St Leonard’s. The historic and architectural importance of the building required very sensitive handling to facilitate its transformation from church to a relatively small-scale but highly popular music venue.
