Rossend Castle is the oldest building in the ancient Royal Burgh of Burntisland.
Although its present name dates from the early 18th Century, at least as far back at 1383 it was owned by the
Durie Family, who extended an older building dating from 1119 or before.
Rossend was almost demolished in the 1960s but was saved by local
pressure and the intercession of the National Trust for Scotland, the Ancient Monuments Commission, historical novelist
Nigel Tranter, the Historic Buildings Council for Scotland and the Saltire Society.
In the 1970s it was acquired by the Hurd Rolland Partnership Chartered Architects, who began a sympathetic restoration of Rossend as their offices. It can be visited by arrangement. This 17 year old single malt scotch whisky commemorates the Durie Family's long and historic connection with the castle. ![]()
